Access to basic health products dramatically impacts women’s lives. Today the #1 killer of women globally (ages 15-44) is AIDS, and the top reason girls drop out of school is largely attributed to teen pregnancy. Both of these issues can be significantly changed through access to condoms.
Yet, nine out of ten high HIV prevalent African countries experience condom stock-outs for 2-3 months at a time. In Sierra Leone over 20% of girls miss school because of lack of access to sanitary pads. In Nepal and Afghanistan, 3 out of 10 girls miss school for the same reason. At L., we believe that a period should only end a sentence – and not be the end to education or opportunity.
